In mid-August, my husband and I were invited for a stay at the Old Edwards Inn in Highlands, North Carolina by the Director of Sales and Events at the Inn, Melissa Delany. Our time there was beyond incredible, and to be honest, I now spend a lot of my time trying to find a way to venture back to this pure escape from reality. Modeled in the European style, this inn and venue is currently at the top of my list for brides looking for that truly memorable and absolutely stunning venue! It’s hard for me to even know where to begin when writing this venue spotlight. There are so many wonderful aspects to the Old Edwards Inn’s varying properties and incredible staff.
My husband, Chris, and I had the pleasure of staying in one of the newly built Fall Cottages. Each of these cottages is adorned with a cozy fireplace and decked out with carefully selected furnishings. Every detail, from the heated bathroom floors to the comfortable porch is luxurious and exceeds your expectations. The cottages are surrounded by breathtaking mountains, a new heated, mineral pool, and amenities such as the lodge, spa, exercise center, and many incredible dining options on the property. Chris and I strolled across the grounds for dinner at Madison’s our first night at the inn. Madison’s is well known for it’s use of sustainable delicacies and award wining wine. The staff was attentive, the food was carefully selected and prepared, and we even enjoyed watching them prepare a special anniversary dinner for the couple behind us. It was a charming experience I hope to soon have again!
The Farm at Old Edwards is the largest of the facilities available for weddings and special events through the Old Edwards Inn. I recently produced a shoot in the surrounding gardens for Occasions Magazine at this property. The gardens surrounding the reception space (seen above) are lovely for an evening ceremony and can accommodate 250 guests. The gardens at The Farm are finely manicured and quite dreamy. I also adore the indoor space for its varying decor opportunities, such as draping from the rafters and natural beauty, optimized by the glass walls and open air ability. You feel like you’re standing in the middle of a garden, with all the comfort of the indoors. It’s fabulous. And, for a designer like me, I am loving the natural, simple elegance of this space.
For those of you looking for a more intimate venue option, the Old Edwards Inn has taken on several stunning properties, deemed The Guest Estates of Old Edwards, which vary in style and size. I had the pleasure of personally viewing these venues during my visit. The Hutcheson House, pictured above, is one of their newly acquired guest estates. Upon arriving at this pristine estate, you’re engulfed by its magical drive and old-fashioned charm. However, my favorite tidbit about the property is that every chair, pillow, and painting has been picked out personally by the owner of the inn. The attention to detail and quality of every item is a refreshing escape from the standard decor of a venue in the city.
Featured above are photos of the Rockwood Lodge. Rockwood is a true escape from reality. The road to arrive at the estate leads you away from the town of Highlands and reveals an awe-inspiring view at the top. The estate would be the perfect fit for a large wedding party that would like to host everyone in the same location as the ceremony. As you can see above, a ceremony backdrop really can’t get any better than this! This estate is finely furnished, with an eclectic collection of natural decor and has all the amenities needed to allow your guests to relax in style.
The last estate that I had the pleasure of viewing was Piermont Cottage. For a peek into this lovely location, check out the link here. I love the soft yellow facade and restoration to its original charm that this venue takes on. It’s the perfect location for a relaxed outdoor ceremony and reception on the lawn. Just darling! Finally, I will also recommend The Grill Room, at the Golf Club. This area also provides a great space for rehearsal dinners or receptions. I played golf in high school, so this facility holds a special place in my heart. The staff at the club was very friendly and the views of the course were beautiful.
I could go on and on about all the lovely facilities and treasures I discovered during my stay at The Old Edwards Inn. However, I would be leaving out the best part of hosting your event at one of these properties. The overarching dedication to excellence. The rumors are true: upon arrival, guests are greeted with a glass of champagne or Dove chocolate=covered ice cream bars. Let the relaxing begin! The staff goes above and beyond from the first moment to ensure that you feel comfortable and are completely attended to. They are always attentive and ready to serve. The amenities are amazing; three pools, two hot tubs, a world class spa, shopping, fitness center, and several fine dining choices, just to name a few! And, everyone is so very friendly. Every door that was opened and service that was given was done with a smile.
I do hope that you take the opportunity to join the staff at The Old Edwards Inn for your next event or special escape!
Best,

those views are INCREDIBLE! I love that there are so many different places to really utilize the space!
This is the perfect destination spot for mountain brides. So many think they can’t get that luxury, hideaway feel east of the Mississippi, but they haven’t been to Old Edwards Inn yet. Driving into Highlands feels like a climb into another world where it’s all about your wedding – their team and location provides experience guests won’t forget.
I love how many amazing spots this venue boasts! Couples can pick their favorites to truly personalize their wedding day or utilize them all for a stunning wedding weekend!
100% one of my favorite venues!! Such a unique and sweet experience to get married in a small town surrounded by your best friends and family + mountain air! It doesn’t get much better than that!
