Hi Friend!
By this point ( and most likely forevermore) zoom calls and FaceTime consultations are here to stay as a regular and normal part of our wedding planner business life. I’ll never forget this transition, because I’ve been working remotely for years and loving it! It’s been amazing to see people get the push to embrace this change that gives us less time in the car, more time with family, and allows us to spend less money on a swanky office in downtown. This is one of those rare changes for the better in the last year, and I’m so happy that others now understand how completely possible it is to run a 6-Figure business from home.
Obviously, I’m a bit passionate about that work from home life! But, the ironic part is that during the pandemic I didn’t have a “zoom ready space” – maybe you feel the same? You see, JUST before the pandemic hit, my husband and I signed a lease on a 2 bedroom apartment. Even though we both work from home and have a kid, we figured we wouldn’t be home too much (we love to travel) AND planned to work in the apartment clubhouse office space. Then lockdown happened and things got CRAZY. The idea to write a post with my best tips and tricks for those who want to up their zoom consult game no matter where they are right now popped in my head this last week, so here I am. Let’s dive in…
Sarah's Top 5 Tips For Being Zoom Call Ready
- 1. ELIMINATE VISUAL DISTRACTIONS: Find a spot (yes even just a few feet) in your home / apartment where there are few visual distractions. If you do not have a beautiful backdrop (which was the case many times for me over the last year), then simply have or create a background without clutter or visual distractions. A plain, white wall is better than items that take away from your professional mood.
- 2. LIGHTING IS EVERYTHING: I'm linking this content (click here) to my very favorite light for zoom calls. Natural light is always preferred, and I often try to zoom in front of a window or on a covered porch. However, when natural light is unavailable (for a night consult or such), using a light ring will really give you a professional appearance online.
- 3. DRESS PROFESSIONAL: I know it's just a call, but dressing exactly as you would for an in-person consultation at that chic new coffee spot, will still go a long way. Yes, even if it's only from the waist up! 😉
- 4. MAKEUP + HAIR : When you're recording a video, it's super important that you take a little extra time with that makeup and hair. Often, on video, makeup can look washed out. So, don't feel silly when you out on that lipstick friend!
- 5. BRING YOUR CONFIDENCE: If you ignore everything else, please take this one piece of gold with you to your next zoom call. Confidence, when selling or just leading a planning call, is everything friend. You're amazing, don't doubt that - be the rockstar I know you are and shine!!
Okay loves, that’s it from me. I hope and pray you’re leaving this post with some new checkpoints and tools in your bag before that next call.
